Many folks prefer to do their own DIY self-help. If that's the case, I hope you find the following simple tools useful...
I suggest the following steps to help you find your life purpose:
- Discover your passion: I suggest reflecting on what brings you joy and excitement, and what you would do even if you were not being paid for it. This can give you a clue about your passion, which is key to discovering your purpose. (See DIY exercise below)
- Get clear on your values: Identifying your core values can help you align your purpose with the things that are most important to you. Knowing your values can help you focus on what is truly meaningful to you. (See DIY exercise below)
- Identify your strengths: Knowing your strengths can help you focus on the things that you are naturally good at and bring you joy. This can play a big role in finding your purpose.
- Set goals: I suggest setting clear and achievable goals that align with your life purpose. This helps to create a roadmap for living a life of purpose and fulfilment.
- Surround yourself with positive energy: Being around positive and supportive people can help uplift and inspire you on your journey to finding your purpose. So, I suggest that you surround yourself with positive and supportive people. Indeed its not just the people; a positive uplifting home environment will help the cause as well.
How to find your passions in life
In my coaching work I have developed a deep and fun process for supporting clients to clearly identify their passions. Here is a simple process so that you can get started for yourself.
Here is a simple exercise that can help you find your passions:
- Write down a list of activities or hobbies that you enjoy. These could be anything from reading books to playing sports, gardening, cooking, etc.
- Reflect on why you enjoy these activities. Write down what it is about each activity that brings you joy and excitement. This can help you identify patterns and common themes that give you a sense of purpose.
- Ask yourself what you would do if you had unlimited time and resources. This can help you identify your true passions and what you would do even if you were not being paid for it.
- Try new activities. This can help you expand your horizons and discover new passions that you may not have considered before.
- Reflect on what brings you a sense of fulfillment. Write down what you feel when you engage in these activities and how they make you feel. (See DIY exercise below)
By following these steps, you can get a better understanding of what your passions are and how they can be incorporated into your life purpose.
How to find your values
In my coaching work I have developed a deep and fun process for supporting clients to clearly identify their values and personal truth. Here is a simple process so that you can get started for yourself.
Here is an exercise to help you establish your values:
- Write down a list of 10-15 things that are most important to you. This could include things like family, health, friendship, career, financial stability, personal growth, etc.
- Refine the list by eliminating items that are not truly values. These are things that are nice to have, but are not essential to your happiness and well-being.
- Rank the items in order of importance. This will help you determine your top values, which can guide you in making decisions and living a purposeful life.
- Write down a sentence or two that describes each value. This can help you understand what each value means to you and how you can integrate it into your life.
- Reflect on how your values align with your life purpose. Are you living in a way that aligns with your values? If not, consider making changes that align with your values and bring you a sense of fulfillment and purpose.
By following this exercise, you can establish your values and use them to guide you in making decisions and living a purposeful life.
What if life isn't fulfilling anymore
Sometimes clients tell me that they just don't know how to feel fulfilled. They have lost the feeling! If thats you, you can start today to make small incremental movements towards your own sense of fulfilment...
Here is an exercise that can help you start to discover more fulfillment in your life:
- Write down what you enjoy: Make a list of things that bring you joy and fulfillment. This could include hobbies, interests, and activities that you enjoy.
- Make a plan: Choose one of the items from your list and make a plan to engage in it regularly. This could be as simple as setting aside 30 minutes each day to do something you enjoy.
- Seek out new experiences: Try new things and seek out new experiences. This can help you expand your horizons and find new sources of fulfillment.
- Surround yourself with positive people: Seek out positive and supportive people who can encourage and uplift you. Being around positive energy can help bring more joy and fulfillment into your life.
- Practice gratitude: Take time each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for. This can help you focus on the positive aspects of your life and bring a sense of joy and fulfillment.
By following these steps, you can start to welcome more joy and fulfillment into your life, even if you currently have nothing fulfilling. Remember to start small and be patient with yourself. The more you engage in these activities, the more fulfilling your life will become.
